Clars Auction Gallery Expands Its Presence to Los Angeles
Clars Auction Gallery has expanded its reach to Los Angeles with the acquisition of Linwoods Gallery Auction, now rebranded as Clars L.A. at its San Gabriel location. This move offers a new destination for art enthusiasts in Southern California. Lindwoods Auction, originally established as an art gallery in the San Gabriel Mission District, is widely recognized for its Asian art and antiquities, set within a unique artistic atmosphere. Linwoods is renowned for being art connoisseurs who have cherished Asian art collections for generations within their family history.
The San Gabriel location boasts a historic building dating back to 1885, originally serving as a blacksmith’s forge for early settlers, cattle hands, and ranchers near the San Gabriel River, adjacent to the San Gabriel Mission. Situated by the riverbanks, it provided a watering spot for horses and featured grand architecture designed for equine care. The building’s cobblestone floors and intricately crafted brickwork reflect back to a bygone era of frontier living. Throughout its history, it has undergone various transformations, serving as a blacksmith shop, Century Motor Sales showroom, Cambridge Furniture store, and general store, before evolving into a gallery for fine art collections.
This strategic acquisition represents a significant expansion for Clars Auction Gallery, marking its second location alongside its flagship base in San Francisco. With a focus on enhancing communication and exposure for auction clients, consignors, and art enthusiasts across both Northern and Southern California, this move aligns with the company’s growth objectives. The fusion of Western and Asian cultures within the gallery’s offerings presents a unique opportunity for further development and expansion.
Clars L.A. will specialize in Fine Arts, Furniture, and Decorative pieces. The distinctive architecture of the San Gabriel location, with its A-frame vaulted ceilings and historic brick inlays, provides an ideal backdrop for an art gallery where the architecture harmonizes beautifully with the art.
The San Gabriel area holds its own artistic significance, with artifacts dating back to the era of the missionaries who once inhabited the region. Clars Auction Gallery is proud to continue the legacy of this historic site, furthering its expansion goals while providing a distinguished venue for showcasing.
